Construction Laborer

Eastern States Construction Service, a leading Heavy/Highway and Site Development Construction Company based in New Castle County Delaware, is currently seeking hard working, eager to learn, and dependable Construction Laborers to join our team.

In this position, your primary responsibility will be performing duties necessary to the successful completion of heavy/highway construction projects.

Duties include:

  • Assist in controlling traffic
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
  • Assist in the installation of sewer, water, and storm drain pipes, using pipe-laying machinery and laser guidance equipment.
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Perform set up and cleanup tasks at jobsite
  • Operation of various equipment including jackhammers, tampers, skid steers, compactors
  • Perform all work efficiently and safely in accordance with State, Federal and Company regulations
  • Finish assigned tasks on time with high standards of quality

Mechanic - Diesel/Heavy Equipment

Eastern States Construction Service, a leading Heavy/Highway and Site Development Construction Company based in New Castle County Delaware, is currently seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our highly skilled Construction team.
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible to safely and efficiently perform mechanical repairs and periodic maintenance on heavy construction equipment and trucks.

Duties include:
 Maintain and repair heavy equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical machinery and systems.
 Maintain shop supplies, shop and tools.
 Read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, prints and schematics.
 Assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as needed
 Perform all work efficiently and safely in accordance with State, Federal and Company regulations
 Maintain work areas in clean and safe manner
 Finish assigned tasks on time with high standards of quality
Requirements:
 1-3 years experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment
 Must have own tools
 Strong work ethic
 Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
 Ability to effectively communicate
 Ability to comprehend and carry out instruction
 Flexible
 Valid driver’s license
 Ability to lift heavy parts and tools

Pipe Foreman

Eastern States Construction Services, a leading Heavy/Highway and Site Development Construction Company specializing in public sewer, water, site development and heavy/highway construction projects with major public and private clients in the Delaware and Maryland region is currently seeking an experienced Pipe Foreman to join our dedicated and highly skilled Construction team.

As a Pipe Foreman, you will be responsible to supervise assigned pipe crew, ensuring the safe and efficient completion of assigned work in compliance with project plans and specifications.

Duties include:

  • Supervise, and coordinate activities of workers engaged in Storm Water, Water, and Sanitary Utility Pipe installation.
  • Layout work area and control activities of construction crew for conformance with work rules, policies and directives.
  • Review progress of project and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Perform duties of Laborer, Pipelayer, or Operator as needed.
  • Complete required paperwork such as timesheets, daily reports, time and material records, and equipment reports.

To be successful in this position you must have a passion for construction, getting the job done right and safely as well as a minimum of pipe laying experience and experience at a supervisory level. Excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and drive others is a must.

Pipelayer

Eastern States Construction Service, a leading Heavy/Highway and Site Development Construction Company based in New Castle County Delaware, is currently seeking hard working, eager to learn, and dependable Pipelayers to join our highly skilled and talented Construction team.

In this position, your primary responsibility will be safely and efficiently performing duties necessary for the installation and repair or sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems while continually learning and further developing skills.

Duties include but are not limited to:

*Assist in the set-up and operation of lasers and transits * Read grade poles for pipe installation and grading operation * Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing * Bench, shore or slope excavations * Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers * Clean tools, materials and work areas * Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement or glue * Cover pipes with earth or other materials * Measure and cut pipes to required lengths * Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools * Direct equipment operators on cuts and fills; signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials * Grade and level trench bases and culverts using tamping machines and hand tools * Inspect pipe for cleanliness and defects prior to installation * Layout pipe routes, following written directions or blueprints and coordinate routes with supervisors * Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and equipment * Locate existing pipes in need of repair or replacement * Using hand tools, mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete, asphalt, or gravel  * Operate mechanized equipment such as rollers, tamps, jackhammers * Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices * Hand dig to visually check for utilities
